Jot Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 23, 2026

Jot ("Jot", "we", "us", or "our") is a Chrome extension that helps you rewrite text into clear, natural, and context-appropriate replies, comments, posts, announcements, and other short-form writing.

This Privacy Policy explains what information Jot accesses and processes, how that information is used, which services receive it, and how information is stored.

Jot is designed around a simple principle: your writing is processed when you ask Jot to rewrite it, rather than collected as a history of everything you type.

1. Information Jot Processes

Text you submit

When you invoke Jot and request a rewrite, Jot accesses the text you choose to submit.

This may include text from:

  • Email fields
  • Chat and messaging fields
  • Comment fields
  • Social media posts
  • CRM fields
  • Text editors
  • Other supported webpage text fields

Jot uses this text to fulfill the rewrite request you initiate.

Jot does not continuously monitor everything you type.

Jot does not intentionally collect or maintain a history of text that you type but do not submit to Jot.

Custom prompts and feedback

Jot allows you to provide additional instructions or feedback when rewriting text.

For example:

  • "Make this shorter"
  • "Make it more casual"
  • "Make this friendlier"
  • "Make this more professional"
  • "Make this clearer"

Your custom prompt or feedback is processed together with the text you submit so that the selected AI provider can generate the requested result.

Website-specific personality prompts

Jot allows you to configure a custom personality prompt for individual websites.

For example, you may configure a website with a prompt such as:

"Keep my writing casual, direct, and conversational. Don't make it sound overly polished."

Your website-specific personality prompts are stored locally in your browser.

When you use Jot on a corresponding website, the applicable personality prompt is included in the rewrite request so the selected AI provider can generate a response according to your instructions.

Jot does not store your website-specific personality prompts on Jot's servers.

Extension settings

Jot may store configuration and preferences locally in your browser, including:

  • Writing modes
  • Website-specific personality prompts
  • Custom settings
  • Selected AI provider
  • API keys you choose to configure
  • Other extension preferences

2. API Keys

Jot allows you to use your own API key with supported AI providers.

When you provide an API key, Jot stores the API key locally in your browser using browser local storage.

Your API key is used to authenticate requests to the AI provider you selected.

Jot does not transmit your API key to Jot's servers or store your API key on Jot's servers.

Your API key remains in your browser until you remove it, clear the extension's stored data, or uninstall Jot.

You can remove or replace your API key through Jot's settings.

3. AI Providers

Jot allows you to choose which AI provider you want to use to generate your rewrites.

Supported providers include:

  • Anthropic Claude
  • OpenAI
  • Google
  • DeepSeek
  • Wurkflo

The provider you select determines where your rewrite request is processed.

Direct AI providers

When you configure Jot to use your own API key with Anthropic Claude, OpenAI, Google, or DeepSeek, Jot sends the information necessary to fulfill your request to the provider you selected.

This may include:

  • Text you submitted for rewriting
  • Your custom prompt
  • Your selected writing mode
  • Your website-specific personality prompt
  • Feedback or additional instructions

Jot does not send your request to AI providers that you have not selected.

Your use of a third-party AI provider through Jot is also subject to that provider's applicable privacy policy and terms.

Wurkflo

Jot can use Wurkflo as an AI service without requiring you to configure your own AI provider.

When you choose Wurkflo, Jot sends the information necessary to process your request to Wurkflo.

This may include:

  • Text you submitted for rewriting
  • Your custom prompt
  • Your selected writing mode
  • Your website-specific personality prompt
  • Feedback or additional instructions

Wurkflo processes this information to generate the response requested through Jot.

Your use of Wurkflo through Jot is subject to the Wurkflo Privacy Policy and applicable Wurkflo terms.

4. Wurkflo Accounts

Jot can use Wurkflo as an AI service.

If you choose to use Wurkflo, you sign in to your Wurkflo account through the Wurkflo website at wurkflo.app.

Authentication is handled by Wurkflo through its website and does not take place directly inside the Jot extension.

Your Wurkflo account uses your email address for authentication.

Jot does not ask you to enter your Wurkflo password into the extension.

Jot does not receive or store your Wurkflo password.

Your Wurkflo account email address may be used by Wurkflo to:

  • Identify your account
  • Authenticate your session
  • Associate requests with your account
  • Provide account-based functionality
  • Track usage associated with your account

When you use Wurkflo through Jot, the information required to authenticate your account and process your request may be exchanged between Jot and Wurkflo.

Your use of Wurkflo is subject to the Wurkflo Privacy Policy and applicable Wurkflo terms.

5. What Happens to Your Text?

Jot does not retain:

  • Text submitted for rewriting
  • Generated rewrites
  • Custom prompts
  • Feedback or rewrite instructions

Jot processes this information to fulfill your request and does not retain it after the request is completed.

When you use a third-party AI provider, your request is transmitted to that provider. The provider's own privacy policy, terms, and data-handling practices apply to information processed by that provider.

Jot does not control the independent data retention practices of third-party AI providers.

6. Website Access

Jot requires access to webpages where you choose to use the extension.

This access allows Jot to:

  1. Detect supported text fields.
  2. Provide the Jot interface.
  3. Access text that you choose to submit to Jot.
  4. Determine the applicable website-specific personality prompt.
  5. Send your requested text to the AI service you selected.
  6. Insert the generated result back into the appropriate text field.

Jot does not use webpage access to build a history of websites you visit.

Jot does not intentionally collect unrelated webpage content.

Jot does not intentionally monitor:

  • Browsing history
  • Mouse movements
  • Scroll activity
  • Keystrokes unrelated to using Jot
  • Text that you have not submitted to Jot

Website access exists to provide Jot's core writing functionality.

7. Data Storage

Jot stores certain extension settings locally in your browser.

These may include:

  • Writing modes
  • Website-specific personality prompts
  • Custom settings
  • Selected AI provider
  • API keys
  • Other extension configuration

Jot does not store your submitted writing or generated rewrites.

Jot does not store website-specific personality prompts on its servers.

API keys configured for direct AI providers are stored locally in your browser and are not stored on Jot's servers.

8. Data Retention

Jot does not retain:

  • User-submitted writing
  • Generated rewrites
  • Custom prompts
  • Feedback or rewrite instructions

These are processed to fulfill your request and are not stored by Jot after the request is completed.

API keys and extension settings remain stored locally in your browser until you remove them, clear the extension's stored data, or uninstall Jot.

Third-party AI providers may have their own data retention policies. Please refer to the privacy policy and terms of the provider you select.

9. Data Sharing

Jot does not sell your personal information.

Jot shares information only when necessary to provide functionality you request.

For example:

  • When using Anthropic Claude, OpenAI, Google, or DeepSeek with your own API key, your rewrite request is sent to the provider you selected.
  • When using Wurkflo, your rewrite request is sent to Wurkflo for processing.

Jot does not send your writing to AI providers that you have not selected.

Jot does not sell your writing or personal information to advertisers or data brokers.

Jot does not use your writing for advertising.

10. Personal Information

When using Wurkflo, your email address is associated with your Wurkflo account.

The email address is used for account authentication and account-related functionality.

Jot does not sell your email address or use it for advertising.

Jot does not collect other personally identifiable information unless you voluntarily provide it through the services you choose to use.

11. Authentication Information

Jot may process authentication information necessary to provide services you choose to use.

For Wurkflo, authentication is handled through the Wurkflo website rather than through a password entered into the Jot extension.

For direct AI providers, API keys you provide are stored locally in your browser and used to authenticate requests to the selected provider.

Jot does not store your Wurkflo password.

Jot does not transmit your direct AI provider API keys to Jot's servers.

12. Analytics and Usage Information

Jot counts anonymous usage events (for example opens, successful and failed rewrites) to improve the product. These events carry only coarse metadata such as a broad site label and timings — never message text, page addresses, names, or account identifiers. Each install is counted with a random id that resets on reinstall. Analytics is on by default and can be turned off anytime in Jot's settings.

Jot does not use analytics to monitor your browsing activity or build a profile of your activity across websites.

Jot does not collect browsing history, mouse movements, scrolling activity, or keystrokes for analytics purposes.

The Jot website embeds a demo video player. Loading a page with the player contacts YouTube (Google) servers, which may receive your IP address and set cookies per Google's Privacy Policy. The extension itself does not embed third-party players.

13. Security

Jot takes reasonable measures to protect information processed through the extension and its associated services.

API keys configured for direct AI providers are stored locally in your browser and are not stored on Jot's servers.

Wurkflo authentication is handled through the Wurkflo website rather than by asking users to provide their Wurkflo password to the Jot extension.

However, no method of transmitting or storing information electronically can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

You should use appropriate care when submitting sensitive information to any AI service.

14. Third-Party Services

Jot may interact with third-party services that you choose to use, including:

  • Anthropic Claude
  • OpenAI
  • Google
  • DeepSeek
  • Wurkflo

These services operate independently and may have their own privacy policies, terms, security practices, and data retention policies.

You should review the applicable privacy policy of the provider you choose.

Jot does not control the privacy practices of third-party services.

15. Your Choices

You can control your use of Jot by:

  • Choosing whether to use Jot
  • Choosing your AI provider
  • Providing your own API key
  • Removing your API key
  • Changing your writing mode
  • Changing your website-specific personality prompts
  • Clearing locally stored extension data
  • Uninstalling Jot

You are not required to submit text to Jot unless you choose to use its rewriting functionality.

If you do not want a particular AI provider to process your text, you can select another supported provider or stop using the rewriting functionality.

16. Children's Privacy

Jot is not intended to knowingly collect personal information from children in violation of applicable law.

If you believe that a child has provided personal information to Jot in a manner that violates applicable law, please contact us so that we can take appropriate action.

17. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when Jot's functionality, data practices, or applicable legal requirements change.

When we make changes, we will update the Last updated date at the top of this Privacy Policy.

We encourage you to periodically review this Privacy Policy to understand how Jot handles information.
